Pause and Pray
This devotion is dedicated to all those affected by Hurricane Helene. May you find strength and comfort in God's presence during this difficult time.

"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
(Psalm 46:10 NKJV)
It’s 6:30 in the morning, and the world outside is already humming with activity. Car horns blare, a train rumbles in the distance, and school buses begin their rounds. As you stand in the kitchen, watching the coffee maker, your mind races through the day’s to-do list. In that moment, your phone buzzes—work emails, messages from friends, a dentist appointment for the kids, a meeting at nine. And do I even mention the bold headlines describing our world’s chaos? Ugh. It's all so overwhelming—like life is demanding more than you can give.
Yet, in that moment, a soft tug on your heart whispers, "Pause and pray." You glance out the window and see a bird perched on a nearby branch, utterly unbothered by the noise around it. This little bird offers a simple reminder: peace is possible, even in the chaos. You set your phone down, close your eyes, and take a deep breath.
In that small act of stillness, you remember God’s invitation to rest in His presence. He calls to you, even in the midst of the busyness, offering a place of refuge. In this space, your struggles aren’t forgotten or trivialized—they are seen and cared for. You are not a weary traveler shouting into the void. You, my friend, are a child cradled in the warmth of God’s love, where your needs are heard, and your desires known.
The Father longs for us to release our worries, doubts, and anxieties. He desires for our weary spirit to lay everything at His feet. And while in His presence, He calls us to "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10 NIV). So, during times of profound busyness, social mayhem, and national turmoil, take a moment to pause and pray.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your constant presence and the peace You offer, even in life’s busiest moments. I’m grateful that I can be still and know You are God—know You are there. Thank You for being my refuge and strength. I praise You for Your unfailing grace and sovereignty. In Jesus name. Amen.
