"…. Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted."
John 6:11 NKJV
We often find ourselves so focused on our own desires that we forget to pause and appreciate the beauty of gratitude. A simple “thank you” or a casual “how kind of you” can plaster a smile across a lonely stranger's face. You see, that teeny-tiny gesture may have the power to warm a person’s heart long enough to remind them there are people in this world who still care.
Unfortunately, in this world today, expressing gratitude does not come easy. I believe 2020 stole that from us. It took our smiles and hid them behind a mask. We no longer saw grins or frowns, anger or joy, happiness or sadness. That infamous mask hid every emotion that walked by us.
We became a damaged, ungrateful society.
It’s time we rekindle and embrace our sense of gratitude. It’s a mere matter of finding joy in the ordinary and appreciating the simple wonders around us. So, when life slings mud, embrace your inner glitter and allow the divine sparkle within your soul to cleanse your journey. When a cloudy day unleashes torrents of heartfelt rain, open the umbrella, and listen to the pitter-patter of heaven’s love. If you miss the elevator, skip to the stairway, and dance your way to the top. Gratitude really is all about attitude.
Precious One, communicating gratitude and giving thanks are critical in any society or culture. I pray we open our hearts to the positive whispers God so graciously desires us to hear. Recall the moment when "…. Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted (John 6:11 NKJV). Jesus gave thanks and was forever grateful for the abundance of food God produced, which undoubtedly gratified the hunger of about 5,000 people.
Gratitude can and will feed gratitude—if we listen with a grateful heart.
Heavenly Father,
When I’m presented with five loaves and two fish and all looks bleak, use me to seek and find the inner glitter of gratitude. Thank You for always being by my side in this damaged world. Father God, may Your ways, Your love intervene and create a worldwide rebirth of gratitude. In Jesus' name. Amen.
