"Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Matthew 4:19 KJV
Within the puzzle of life's pursuits, amidst the clamor of daily demands, it's easy to lose sight of the higher calling that beckons beyond the mundane. Our purpose, our "whys" in life, echoes through the corridors of every heart. We chase after meaning and request significance.
Some days we scratch and scale our way up the mountain, some days we shed tears within our valleys, and many days we dance to the joyful rhythm of falling confetti. Still, no matter what kind of day it is, we want to know "why" we exist.
Beloved, we have a purpose, and there are answers to the whys.
Let's hop on a wave and head to the Sea of Galilee. We see a bustling marketplace filled with voices overlapping the chaotic symphony of what might be the ancient side of modern living. Amidst all that noise stands Jesus. His eyes are ablaze with purpose as he spots two brothers—Simon called Peter and Andrew, his brother casting a net into the sea. With a gentle yet resolute call, Jesus says to them: "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men"
(Matthew 4:19 KJV).
Right there, in that moment, the epitome of life's ultimate purpose unfolds—Jesus. This extraordinary man never pursued temporal pleasures. He never chased after material wealth. Not at all. More than likely, when he needed new sandals, he didn't search for a trendy marketplace. Nope. It's likely he crafted them himself ... just saying.
You see, Jesus was a carpenter. He dedicated his days to woodworking; yet, his teachings and spiritual essence elevated him to a higher plane of existence. His earthly labor was but a means to the missing puzzle piece for which the complexity of redemption unfolds and eternal significance begins. He is our answer to every why known to mankind. Jesus is the vessel through which divine purpose flows.
Precious one, our Savior is our purpose. He is our why. So, strap on your sandals and heed the ancient call that echoes inside the pages of life. Follow Him, and He will guide you to become a fisher of souls, fitting you perfectly into the divine puzzle of His greater plan.
Heavenly Father,
In moments when my life feels like a long-lost puzzle piece, grant me the strength to stand firm in Your grace. Let my heart and mind be unwavering in its purpose to serve You, and may I dedicate myself to becoming a fisher of souls. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
