"A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones."
Proverbs 14:30 NIV
In life’s vast ocean, we all navigate through waves of challenges and currents of emotions. Proverbs 14:30 paints a vivid picture: "A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones" (NIV). All things considered, the choice is ours: live or rot ... sink or swim. Your choice.
Close your eyes and envision yourself in a boat, rocked by the violent swells of a turbulent sea. When waves of envy hit the sides, it pokes holes in the vessel. As your envy grows for what someone else has, those holes widen, and soon the boat begins to take on water. The weight of envy drags your spirit down, down, down into the murky depths of the sea.
However, we have an alternative. A heart at peace is like a sturdy ship, sailing confidently amidst the waves. It’s not that we won’t have storms. Nor will we always experience clear sailing. But just as a lighthouse guides ships to safety, our heart becomes a beacon. With our mind centered on God, we're given a chance to radiate calm and infuse peace into every fiber of our being.
Imagine the contrast: the sinking ship weighed down by envy versus the buoyant vessel uplifted by peace. One leads to darkness and decay, the other to life and vitality. Beloved, it's not about who reaches the destination first or who has the grandest vessel. It's about the journey, about sailing strong, and about lessons learned. Navigate your heart to swim in love and live in peace.
Heavenly Father,
Grant me a heart of peace and contentment, free from envy and strife. Help me embrace tranquility and let go of resentment. Allow the holy spirit within me to reflect Your grace and spread Your love to those around me. In Jesus' precious name. Amen.
