"Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name." Psalm 100:4
Have you ever entered a room with a scowl on your face? Maybe you were rushed and late for a meeting. Who knows the reason, but scowling never brightens the atmosphere. However, entering the area with a heart full of thanksgiving—now that's like brightening the room with a kaleidoscope of God's butterfly kisses.
Imagine this: You're standing at the entrance of the most exclusive restaurant in town. The hostess, decked out in an angelic robe, smiles and asks your name. You tell her. But … she doesn't check the reservation log; she checks your heart.
Is it beating with thanksgiving?
Is it pumping with praise?
When we enter prayer time, our exclusive time with God, it's not about flaunting our achievements or showing off our credentials. It’s not about telling Him what we want. No. It's about heart, humility, gratitude, and recognizing that every good thing comes from Him. It's like arriving at the grandest banquet of all time, and instead of demanding the best seat, we are simply thankful we got invited.
Admittedly, it's hard to shed the weight of worry and harder still to stop a mouthful of complaints. Yet sometimes the scowl appears too quickly, and with that, negativity breeds negativity. There is no room for that kind of thinking. None. Leave it outside the gate and enter God's presence with thanksgiving. Why? Because it’s a reservation-changer. Giving thanks shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have. It turns grumbling into gratitude and despair into delight.
Oh Beloved, God desires we "Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name" (Psalm 100:4). You see, God inhabits the praises of His people. When the warmth of a person’s heart smiles, God transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Heavenly Father,
May I always recognize that every good thing comes from You, and as I enter the exclusivity of Your gates for personal prayer, I thank You for the hearts that beat with thanksgiving and praise. I also pray for the scowling hearts: please, Father, may they draw near to You and may You bless them with the warmth of Your butterfly kisses. In Jesus' name. Amen.
