"Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as
God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
Eph. 4:31-32 KJV
Bitterness is a heavy burden, and like a flesh-eating piranha, eats away at the core of our heart. Ouch. It's a cruel wrongness that gnaws at our soul and steals our peace. At some point in our lives, we all experience this complex emotion, and how we choose to navigate through it is crucial. Our Adamic nature wants to lash out. Of course, this allows anger and malice to take control.
Beloved, have you ever tried paddling up a waterfall? No? Good, because that would be useless and exhausting. Much like the force of bitterness, the negative emotions drag us down, down, down. Without spiritual control and reliance on Jesus Christ, we'll crash against the rocks at the base of the waterfall—repeatedly. However, with faith and persistence, we can sail through life's turbulent water and steer the boat toward calmer shores—but it takes unwavering dedication and self-discipline.
Spiritual control is the anchor in these stormy seas. By focusing on positive thoughts and praying for guidance from Jesus through the Holy Spirit, we can rise above the temptations of anger, pride, and jealousy. This will “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you" (Ephesians 4:31-32 KJV). God's grace is the life raft that keeps us afloat and provides wisdom and courage to navigate the rough waters.
Precious One, holding onto bitterness is never justified. Never. This emotion imprisons our heart, padlocks our joy, and darkens any kind of hope God intends to grace us with. Let's embrace His grace and let go of the bitterness. Trust in His love, seek His guidance, and allow Him to fill your heart with peace and forgiveness. God's personal love and power are the only ways to tame this flesh-eating monster.
Heavenly Father,
When it comes to dealing with bitterness, I'll put my faith in You. Allow me to turn my target of wrath away from the object and pray for Your wisdom and peace. Help me see You in all things, and may my thoughts, words, and deeds glorify Your name, In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
